Position Overview
As a prison nurse, you will be responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care to inmates, conducting health assessments, and managing health concerns within the facility. Your role is essential in ensuring safety and promoting health within a correctional environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct health assessments and physical examinations of inmates.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by healthcare providers.
- Provide education on health maintenance, disease prevention, and medication management.
- Manage chronic and acute medical conditions, including psychological and behavioral issues.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide first-aid as needed.
- Participate in community outreach programs related to health education and awareness.
Qualifications:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state you will be working.
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in an emergency, mental health, or correctional setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred, or equivalent clinical experience.
- Knowledge of pharmacology, chronic disease management, and mental health issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, staff, and external agencies.
- Ability to work in a challenging environment with professionalism and integrity.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
